When I mentioned in an earlier post that I worked with pastels once when I had insomnia in my early 20's, I didn't mention it was for a few months.
The smell, the feel, the fixative, the little particles of ground pigment entering my lungs. Presto Change-o! Summer 1986. I'm regressing. I just know it.

I really like how you use this pool motif. The formal explorations and the subjective imagery are both really strong and firmly melded together. Both back then and in the current new paintings.
Thanks, I'm stuck on this pool imagery, but to clarify, the pool pastel posted here was done the other night before bedtime. I just meant that the smell of working with pastels took me back in time. The pastels I did 20 some odd years ago were scary insomniac self-portraits. I wish I had them. For an artist with some schoolin' under my belt, I draw suspiciously naive.
